Distance: 371 kms. Estimated duration: 12hrs in dry season; 20hrs in rainy season.
The mudslide affects seriously this route during the months of January to March. Dense fog and strong curves. It is recommendable to drive on this route during daylight.
Huánuco – Tingo María (116 kms). Duration: 2-3hrs. Asphalted road. The route has many curves, especially after the tunnel of Carpish (430 mts long) 30 km from Huánuco and 2,700 m.a.s.l. Strong slopes. The deviation to Monzon (left) gives way to the arrival to Tingo Maria.
Tingo María – Pucallpa (255 kms). This route can only be done in daylight by car or 4×4 in optimum conditions. Pucallpa is located at km O and Tingo María on Km 255, therefore the kilometre counting is regressive. Asphalted road in its first 20 kms (deviation to Tocache); this point onwards the road is non asphalted and in bad conditions until reaching a large opening called Boqueron del Padre Abad, from where at this point the road again is asphalted until reaching Aguaytia, where you will find petrol stations and basic services. Be aware that some sections on the road from Aguaytia to Pucallpa you may find cement blocks on the road; this is to avoid using the road as a landing runway for clandestine airplanes. Also watch out for road humps whilst entering the towns.
