This Sunday the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) began in the temple of Qoricancha, located in the city of Cusco, before thousands of residents and tourists that came to the event. It all started at 9:30 am, when the Inca, played by actor Nivardo Carrillo, left the temple to begin the ritual.
Amid the applause and cheers of the spectators, the Inca offered a moving song in Quechua, the sun god and then threw corn to the earth from a ceremonial dish made with clay and mud.
The Inca sang a song to the sun god, threw corn to the ground and with the rest of the actors marched to the Plaza de Armas, where he carried out the so-called “meeting of two worlds” with the mayor and other authorities of Cusco.
The Inti Raymi Inca ceremony took place annually in Cusco, between the end of the harvest period and the beginning of winter in the Andes, i.e. in the second half of June.
About 850 artists, actors and extras, are involved in the staging of all activities. The cast is made up of academics, amateur actors and members of different organizations.cusco - Inti Raymi
